Cat Tales Jane Yellowrock eBook Faith Hunter

This was an interesting little collection with four shorts, the story/timeline for the series and some bonus info on the vampire clan affliations throughout the series. Three of the four shorts were apparently available at some time on Hunter's website (I had read Kits there)
Here's a quickly list/summary of the shorts:

The Early Years - Jane is "eighteen" or as close as they can guess since she was found as a child and has no memory of her past. Striking own after leaving the children's home where she finished growing up she's follows the bread crumbs to her forgotten past.

Cat Tats - This is a Rick story, he's been captured by an insane vampiress intending to use magic to turn him into a blood slave - I thought that this was really interesting, but there is a whole lot of tarot reading incorporated into the story - it does have hints as to Rick's future, but I was impatient to find out how he was going to make it out his hopeless situation.

Kits - This is the beginning of Jane's relationship with Molly, which I enjoyed when I read it as a freebie on the author's site.

Blood, Fangs and Going Furry - Set right after Mercy Blade, Rick struggles with his new nature after the first full moon following his turning and needs Jane's help. I liked this fine, but liked it better after re-reading the last chapter of Mercy Blade.

I enjoyed this collection but the final story and along with the clan info really made me realize how sketchy my memory of the series is at this point and had me freaked out by how little I remember of the last books. The result is that it I made me put off starting Raven Cursed since I was bummed with my defective brain :( But having reread the last chapters of Mercy Blade, I am all better now and Raven Cursed is in the mail, can't wait - I hear it's really good.

Cat Tales Jane Yellowrock eBook Faith Hunter Reviews

I love the Jane Yellowrock stories. Faith Hunter does an excellent job whether she's writing novels, short stories, or novellas. Her characters are interesting, her plots keep changing. Just when I start worrying that she's going to drift into formula writing, she changes things up. Her short stories are tight, her novels are complex, her world is detailed and consistent, and her writing is fun to read. Jane is sympathetic but not perfect. The people she encounters gain depth over time, her relationships are complicated, and she learns how to be human while she learns to accept being a nonhuman.
What is NOT to like about Faith Hunter and Jane Yellowrock?! Jane kicks ass, takes names, stays strong in the face of adversity and betrayal. Jane has grown throughout the series and understands herself. It's nice to have stories that bring you more background to the larger stories, the bigger picture.
Love Faith Hunter. She rocks the supernatural world.
This is a collection of 4 stories set in the world of Jane Yellowrock. They take place at different times in the series. Two of the stories are Jane stories while the other two are more Rick stories.

I really enjoy paranormal action/mysteries with some romance thrown into the mix occasionally. (I am not talking about those ones where there is a sex scene every other chapter and actually disrupts the story.) But I am also getting tired of vampires, especially those who drip sex appeal while draining half the city dry. So when a well written series that offers a different approach to the paranormal world comes along, I try to get every story associated with it. Faith Hunter is one of the best in the genre right now.

This book was one of the reasons I got a kindle. Several of my favorite authors had stories that were only available as ebooks. This was one of those books that helped me decide to make the plunge (and one of the few books for which I willingly paid full price ).

I would recommend this collection for anybody who has enjoyed the Jane Yellowrock series.
If you're familiar with the world of Jane Yellowrock then these short stories will more than please. If you haven't read any of the Jane Yellowrock stories then these are a good place to start although I think you'll enjoy them so much more if you actaully read the series and honestly if you like Urban Fantasy in any form then you owe it to yourself to read the Jane Yellowrock series. In Cat's Tales we're introduced to four stories that not only add to our knowledge and enjoyment of Jane but are also fun to read.

The Four Short Stories are

1. The Early Years - A short story about Jane which is set right after she left the Children's home that she grew up in. It's a story about finding ones self and sets the pace for the path that Jane will forever walk.

2. Cat Tats - How Rick LeFleur got the tattoes of the cats on him and is in his point of view.

3. Kits - The story of how Jane became good friends with Molly.

4. Blood, Fangs and Going Furry - A story with Rick LeFleur and Jane in Rick's point of view and takes place "immediatly" after the book Mercy Blade.

Along with these tales you also get a nice introduction from the Author which talks about how she came up with Jane Yellowrock and her world and a nice timeline for the series as a whole including the short stories so you'll know when they all took place. Honestly, it's a real value for the price. The quality of the short stories is top notch, the editing is perfect and the stories aren't super short nor too long. A great way to enhance your collection and a good way to learn more about Jane Yellowrock and her world. I loved every minute of it!
